Biography Steve was involved in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a youth, earning his Arrow of Light Award in Pack 47 and the Eagle Scout Award in Troop 46, both in the Santa Clara County Council. He also served as a youth staff member at Camp Hi-Sierra for two years and is a Brotherhood member of Order of the Arrow.

After college, Steve returned to scouting as a leader in 1971 and has served as Cub Committee Chairman, Webelos Leader, Scout Committee Chairman, Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Varsity Scout Leader, Unit Commissioner, District Commissioner, and is currently the Assistant District Commissioner in the Crosswinds District of the Occoneechee Council.

Steve has been a merit badge counselor for over 30 years and recently signed his 3000th merit badge blue card. He has served as a trainer at Little Philmont and numerous District and Council workshops and has been a Commissioner at Camp Hi-Sierra for over 20 years.  He was honored to become a Great Chief in the Tribe of Hi-Sierra in 1996. He holds the Scouter’s Key, Scouter’s Training Award, On My Honor Award, Duty to God Award, Commissioners Arrowhead, Distinguised Commissioner Award, Wood Badge Beads, District Award of Merit, and Silver Beaver Award.

Steve is retired but was employed as a professor and college administrator at West Valley College in Saragoga, CA. and University of California, Berkeley. He was President of the  Executive Council of the California Consortium for Distance Learning for 16 years. He was elected to the International Who’s Who of Distance Learning in 1999. He also has successfully run his own photography business for over 40 years and was also co-chairman of the California Business Advisory Council. He was awarded the Presidential Gold Medal for Small Business in 2002.

Steve is active in the Apex Stake of the LDS Church, serving as Bishop from 1991-1997 in California. He organized and administered the Adopt-A-Family program from 1991-1997. He and his wife Beth have been married for 47 years and have three sons, Eric, Brian, and Scott, all Eagle scouts.
